When Ctg port goes the extra mile to save Tk 800 crore export cargoes
In a remarkable rescue mission, the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), in partnership with Prantik Bengal Salvage and Diving, successfully salvaged the severely damaged container vessel MV Haian City—preventing the loss of export cargoes worth Tk 800 crore and averting a potential blockade of Bangladesh’s busiest shipping channel. The Vietnam-flagged vessel, carrying over 1,100 containers, was struck by an inbound oil tanker near Kutubdia, causing critical underwater damage. Through high-skill underwater welding, precision piloting, and coordinated efforts amid the Eid holidays, the vessel was brought safely to Karnaphuli Dry Dock. Experts hailed the operation as a landmark achievement, spotlighting Bangladesh's growing capability in maritime salvage and emergency response.
